The Buffalo Sabres were forced to make roster changes following Monday’s victory over Washington, as forward Jiri Kulich is sidelined with a lower-body injury. Head coach Lindy Ruff announced that Kulich is considered week-to-week, leaving a gap in the lineup as the team prepares for their next challenge against Ottawa.
Kulich, a 20-year-old standout, has been steadily improving this season with nine points (seven goals, two assists) in 31 games. His recent surge in production, including seven points in his last 14 games, highlights his growing confidence and ability to contribute at the NHL level. His absence is a setback for a team that has benefited from his speed and playmaking in recent games.
The Sabres have recalled Tyson Kozak from the AHL’s Rochester Americans to address the void. The 22-year-old forward has shown promise, previously earning a three-game stint with Buffalo in December, during which he netted his first NHL goal. Kozak has also tallied 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 24 games with the Amerks this season.
During Wednesday’s practice, Kozak centered a line with Sam Lafferty and Nicolas Aube-Kubel, stepping in for Beck Malenstyn, who remains unavailable due to illness. The roster shake-up comes as the Sabres continue to navigate challenges with player health, though defenseman Jacob Bryson returned to practice after missing two games for the same reason.
Buffalo faces Ottawa on Thursday, aiming to maintain momentum despite their recent setbacks. The team’s ability to adapt will be tested as they rely on Kozak and other depth players to fill critical roles.
